AI-based referrals between law firms, from first contact to signed agreement to payout
411Referrals is where law firms refer cases to each other, with AI doing the matching. When a firm gets a case it cannot take, it sends it to another firm through the platform; the two agree on the referral fee, sign the agreement and follow the case until the fee is paid. It is a product of LegalSoft, the US legal-software company I worked with from 2018 to January 2025. I designed it in 2019 and rebuilt it around AI in 2026.

Law firms often get cases they cannot take: the wrong practice area, the wrong state, no room on the calendar. Passing a case to another firm earns a share of the fee, as long as the terms are clear and signed. The first version went years without updates and became obsolete, so in 2026 Hamid, LegalSoft's founder, asked me to rebuild it with today's technology and AI.
The sending firm writes up the case, and the AI scores the referral and points out what is missing before it goes out. It then suggests which firm should receive it, from the firm's own network or the directory, and surfaces what fits from the marketplace, where firms can also make offers. The two firms settle the fee, whether a percentage, a flat amount or a mix, and sign the agreement on screen, drawn or typed, with a certificate of signing attached. The client's details stay hidden from the receiving firm until that signature is in. After that, both firms follow the case, message each other and track the payment to the end.

I had been the product's original owner and designer, and I rebuilt it on my own from April to July 2026. This time every business rule is written down and tested.

Laravel 12 API and a Vue 3 single-page app with AI scoring and firm matching, every query scoped to the firm, Stripe subscriptions, agreements rendered to PDF, 204 API routes and 113 feature tests.
