ColorCare

You design something on the monitor, and when you print it, it comes out as something else, because every device sees colour its own way. Large print plants handle this with colour specialists, expensive instruments and standards such as ISO 12647 and G7. A small shop usually has none of that, and pays for it in wasted paper and ink. The founder, a friend of mine for more than twenty years, started ColorCare so small businesses could get their colour right without the specialists and the equipment.

A print house calibrates its devices through the platform: its monitors, its presses, and the scanners and cameras it uses to capture artwork. It builds a colour profile for each press online and keeps its process in line with the print standards over time. When a customer sends a file, the platform prepares it for the press it will run on. The customer follows the job from their own page, where they upload the file, see a preview of how it will print and get updates as it moves through production. Ink and toner are calculated before the job runs.

I have been ColorCare's CTO since January 2021. I built the website and the platform that print houses and their customers use. The code that does the most important job in ColorCare is a licensed application.

It is live and in use by small businesses.
